### PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Students need activities if they are going to care about calculating Area! In this bundle, you will receive 3 cutting and gluing activities, to help students discover and understand the formula for the area of parallelograms, triangles, and trapezoids.

Everything is ready for you, as the teacher! Simply distribute 1 full sheet and one half sheet to each student. In the first activity, students cut apart and transform parallelograms into rectangles. In the second activity, students cut apart and transform triangles into parallelograms. In the third activity, students cut apart and transform trapezoids into parallelograms. There are student prompts for discovering the correct formulas on each sheet. You also get larger shapes to use as optional teacher examples.

These 3 introductory activities are to be used as supplements to your normal math book. By allowing students to first cut, glue, and explore, they will have a much better understanding of why the formulas work. They will have hands-on experience proving that there is a reason behind the formulas.

You also receive these 3 follow-up activities:

First, a Safe Cracker worksheet for the area of parallelograms. Students are given three "clues", which are area problems. The answers become the numbers in the safe combinations. When the three clues are solved, the safe is cracked! There are a total of 15 problems, but they are grouped into 5 "combinations", so your students will look at this as a 5 question assignment.

Next, a Bingo game for finding the area of rectangles, triangles, parallelograms and trapezoids. With this simple, fun game, your students will master the new Common Core standards in no time.

Finally, an 18-slide PowerPoint show show that asks your students to use Geoboards and rubber bands to create rectangles, parallelograms, triangles, trapezoids, and composite figures and calculate the area of each. (Note: Be sure you have your own Geoboards and rubber bands before using this activity.)

Check out the Exploring Surface Area with Nets pack or the Area Quiz Pack for more area activities. Enjoy!
