Taste the rainbow and while you are at it find the mean, median, mode, and range.
This is a discovery lesson in which students use mini packets of skittles to find measures of central tendency. Mini skittles bags not only contain variations in color, but variations in the amount of candy per bag. This makes them a great tool for this discovery lesson.
I use this lesson with 8th graders who have already used measures of central tendency in the past. This is a great lesson that shows them how the measures vary, which measures are better to be used in different situations, and reviews calculating the mean, median, and mode.
