Product Description
Students remember more when they are involved in a lesson. This 10 task activity has students draw the diagonals and then measure various parts to discover special properties of 7 quadrilaterals.

• Task 1: Compare the lengths of the two diagonals in each quadrilateral to see if they are congruent. .
• Task 2: Compare the two parts of each diagonal to see if they are bisected in each quadrilateral.
• Task 3: Compare the four angles in each quadrilateral. Describe which angles are congruent.
• Task 4: Compare the four angles formed by the intersectionof the diagonals to see if the diagonals are perpendicular.
• Task 5: Compare the two smaller angles formed by each diagonal when it divides the opposite angles in the quadrilateral.
• Task 6: Conjecture which angles of the quadrilateral appear to be supplementary.
• Task 7: Conjecture how many pairs of opposite sides that are congruent and how many pairs.
• Task 8: Conjecture which quadrilaterals have two adjacent sides congruent.
• Task 9: Conjecture which quadrilaterals have one or two lines of symmetry.
• Task 10:Conjecture the characteristics of the quadrilateral that creates perpendicular diagonals and the characteristics that makes the diagonals bisect the opposite angles.

Students record their information in a chart and then look for any patterns among the data.

Comments from buyers:

• So much more engaging then lectures on properties.
• Great intro activity!
• Wonderful activity for reinforcement!
• A great way to explore all of the properties rather than just telling the kids.
• It was great to refer back to this activity throughout the formal notes and later practice. Thank you!
• WOW, Love this for the spatial learner and the hands-on learners. I'm using it for the introduction to quadrilaterals (and am confident enough to use it for my formal observation class.)
• I used this on the first day of the section and really enjoyed being able to call back on it ("remember we found this out?"). I liked seeing my hands-on carpentry minded student getting super into it and taking extreme care in his measurements.
• I split the investigations/shapes among groups because of time. I think this really helped students remember the properties based on hand-on practice, instead of rote memorization. Thank you!
• This was a great activity and the kids remember the properties much better!
• This provided good practice measuring with a ruler and protractor. It did take 2 class periods - I ended up assigning each student 2 or 3 shapes depending on their speed and then had them meet with others to pair/group share to come up with this properties. Good activity!
