Students use a graphing utility to sketch the parent function and then reflections over the x- and y-axes, translations up and down and translations left and right. This is accomplished first with y = 2^x and then y = |x|. Then students summarize their findings. Using their findings, students use the grapher to find the parent functions of y = SQR(x), y = log x and y = 1/x and sketch the reflections and translations by hand. Then a piece-wise function graph is presented and students sketch the translations and reflections. Finally, students sketch some graphs with three changes (rather than one in the previous problems) by hand.
