Our district adopted the Discovery Education Social Studies Techbook this year, found on the DiscoveryEd online portal. As the trainers for this Techbook even say, it is "not a curriculum" but rather "a resource." To that end, my colleagues and I have had to create a variety of worksheets to support the activities in the Techbook as well as quiz questions for reading passages that can be uploaded to Socrative or Kahoots or even used on Google Forms. Some of the resources have been retyped from the original pdf format into a Word doc or spreadsheet with minor format and directions changes. ALL resources I have created are for Grade 7, World Geography chapters TO ACCOMPANY the DiscoveryEd online Techbook. There is no direct text from the chapters themselves. For that, you will need an account with Discovery Education.
This resource is an activity assignment based on the one from the Techbook for Chapter 12.3, a short unit on Citizenry. This unit, which we found closer to the end of the school year, will be the one we begin with next year - it's that good!
This particular resource is two graphic organizers. One is "Citizens of the World Migration" withe directions:
Directions: After viewing the text and the media From Chapter 12.3, Explore pages 7 - 9, consider how migration changes the new place in different ways.
The other page of this resource is "Change Over Time" chart with these directions:
Complete the Change over Time Chart as your read the text and view the media on page 4 of the Explore tab and record how technological advances have eased human travel and migration.
The best part of these graphic organizers were the collaborative discussions they inspired. Well worth the try!
