Our district adopted the Discovery Education Social Studies Techbook this year, found on the DiscoveryEd online portal. As the trainers for this Techbook even say, it is "not a curriculum" but rather "a resource." To that end, my colleagues and I have had to create a variety of worksheets to support the activities in the Techbook as well as quiz questions for reading passages that can be uploaded to Socrative or Kahoots or even used on Google Forms. Some of the resources have been retyped from the original pdf format into a Word doc or spreadsheet with minor format and directions changes. ALL resources I have created are for Grade 7, World Geography chapters TO ACCOMPANY the DiscoveryEd online Techbook. There is no direct text from the chapters themselves. For that, you will need an account with Discovery Education.
This resource is an activity assignment based on the one from the Techbook for Chapter 4.3. It asks the students to compare various aspects of a nation.
Directions: You have been assigned a country. Use the Core Interactive text, the videos, the images, etc. to learn as much as you can about ethnic groups, languages, religions, and foods of your assigned country. Fill in your row of this chart. Later, when we reconvene as a large group, you’ll fill in new details about other countries from your peers’ sharing.
We used this assignment as a summative measure for Europe, but it could be adapted to any nation or continent.
