Our district adopted the Discovery Education Social Studies Techbook this year, found on the DiscoveryEd online portal. As the trainers for this Techbook even say, it is "not a curriculum" but rather "a resource." To that end, my colleagues and I have had to create a variety of worksheets to support the activities in the Techbook as well as quiz questions for reading passages that can be uploaded to Socrative or Kahoots or even used on Google Forms. Some of the resources have been retyped from the original pdf format into a Word doc or spreadsheet with minor format and directions changes. ALL resources I have created are for Grade 7, World Geography chapters TO ACCOMPANY the DiscoveryEd online Techbook. There is no direct text from the chapters themselves. For that, you will need an account with Discovery Education.
This particular resource was a new invention for us. The students seemed to lose/confuse many of the Google docs for the various pages in the Techbook, i.e.e Engage page, Explore page 1, etc. So, the idea here was to create all graphic organizers on a single set of spreadsheets using Excel. This spreadsheet consists of 10 individual pages of 10 different graphic organizers. Each graphic organizer mirrors exactly what questions and assignments were happening on those pages, and each tab at the bottom is marked with what pages that spreadsheet corresponds to. Additionally, I uploaded a timeline we had been working with in class. Many of the students did not come in with enough background knowledge to understand how WWI, WWII, etc. appeared sequentially. This addition was meant to help clear up any confusion, but it can be deleted easily if it doesn't' work for you.
From here, the students put these graphic organizers into the online notebook, organized by folder. That helped the students learn an organization and management skill as well.
