Our district adopted the Discovery Education Social Studies Techbook this year, found on the DiscoveryEd online portal. As the trainers for this Techbook even say, it is "not a curriculum" but rather "a resource." To that end, my colleagues and I have had to create a variety of worksheets to support the activities in the Techbook as well as quiz questions for reading passages that can be uploaded to Socrative or Kahoots or even used on Google Forms. Some of the resources have been retyped from the original pdf format into a Word doc or spreadsheet with minor format and directions changes. ALL resources I have created are for Grade 7, World Geography chapters TO ACCOMPANY the DiscoveryEd online Techbook. There is no direct text from the chapters themselves. For that, you will need an account with Discovery Education.
This particular resource connects to Grade 7 World Geography Techbook Chapter 1.1, Small Group Project. We needed to give our kids something more concrete, so I designed this activity for the kids to be split into pairs and create a map of our school.
*You will need to substitute information for your own school, including your school's logo and floor plan.
I also allowed the kids (with administrative permission) to walk through the school and map it out on the first day, and then create a hard copy of the map for the second day. We donated the best maps to the 6th grade teachers for use with incoming 6th grader next September.
