Discovery Learning is a method that focuses on inquiry and letting the learner figure out facts and relationships on their own. For this activity, students will learn about oxidation and chemical reactions by drawing on their prior knowledge of seeing discolored pennies. Students will learn that the acetic acid in vinegar and the oxygen in the air reacts to the copper in the penny, creating carbon acetate on the penny – the green color.
