Students are presented with a series of printed words followed by images that differ only by their vowel sounds (e.g., cup and cap). Students will circle the image that matches the printed word. All words on this worksheet are short vowel, closed syllable (CVC) words. This visually-engaging worksheet is great for students who are still developing their ability to discriminate short vowel sounds! This activity helps to bridge phonemic awareness skills into phonics by identifying the sounds required to name the images, and then mapping these sounds onto the printed word.
