This activity can be used to facilitate student discussion on the beginning of the novel The Other Wes Moore.
You will be able to download and edit any of these materials - you will receive a Google Drive link :)
There are three pages in this document, organized as followed:
-Page 1: Contains a three-column organizer with three broad discussion questions related to the novel. For each question, students will first locate and write down a piece of textual evidence, and then, in the last column, explain why they chose each quote.
-Page 2: This can be used to track student discussions, especially if they are happening in smaller groups. This tracker uses the roles protocol (i.e. instigator, predictor, questioner) and has students track who speaks, how many times academic talk moves are used, and interesting points or insights that arise.
-Page 3: This page is the reflection portion of the assignment. After students engage in a discussion, they can choose to answer (2) of any of the provided (8) reflection questions.
