PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The discussion guide is specific to the book, Stolen into Slavery: The True Story of Solomon Northup, Free Black Man by Judith and Dennis Fradin.

The guide is divided into five sections: Events, Names, Escapes, Choice, and Law. Within three sections, students select from response options, and the remaining two sections require a response for a total of five responses that would prepare students for a group discussion of the book.

Prompts go beyond simple comprehension of the text by having students think critically and make connections as they explore the challenges the Solomon faced.

Suggested Instruction Plan:
1. Distribute the guide for preview.
2. Assign the reading of the text.
3. Have students complete the responses during and following their reading.
4. Hold a discussion session (whole group or small group) to share responses.
