Questions explore literary devices, themes and cover major events in the storyline to improve student reading comprehension and understanding of the story.
I teach students how to annotate while reading and then give them the questions each week before they meet in a small reading discussion group of five or six students for thirty minutes. However, you could have them read and answer the question individually instead.
After each reading group meets, we discuss in a large group their answers and any other relevant or pertinent information to the story or broader themes.
