Feeling a little lost with your middle/high school students who stutter? Not sure what to do in a high school social skills group? TED Talks are a great way to get them engaged. I’ve selected eight TED Talks that are ideal for your fluency or high level social skills students or anyone needing some assistance with public speaking!
This packet provides a link to the talk and short description (including length) for the therapist/teacher. All talks will fit easily into a 30 min session with time for discussion at the end. (Please note that not every talk is appropriate for every student. Use your own discretion when making selections for therapy!)
For each talk, there are four discussion questions. These are provided on the intro sheet, and can be presented by the therapist, but are also provided in sentence strip format so students can pull and answer and additionally in written prompt format if you prefer to use as a writing activity or homework. Each talk also has “inspired by” activities—one individual and one group.
The layout lends itself to an 8-10 week support group format or can be used periodically to spice up your therapy sessions. It’s also a great resource to use with SLPAs or substitutes since the lesson plan is all written out.
Each lesson can be completed in two 30 minute sessions or a one hour session plus homework if desired.
Includes discussion questions/activities for eight TED Talks plus a bonus craft activity.
