Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson follows Bryan's career as a young lawyer and founder of the Equal Justice Initiative, which represents inmates serving life sentences or are on death row. (Note: some subjects in the book may not be appropriate for younger grades). This resource includes questions for the entire book and can be used as discussion questions for Socratic seminars or small group discussions. The questions are argumentative in nature and not simply asking for comprehension. I suggest giving the questions to students before reading the text. Most questions ask the students "why or why not," but students should constantly be backing up their thinking with good reasoning and evidence from the text or outside research.
