Here are seven weeks of reading comprehension questions that cover the entire book, In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan.
These are great for keeping students motivated to read as well as assist them with reading comprehension and engaging in discussion about the book.
They are set up for small groups of about six students, but can be adjusted for smaller or larger groups. Students read the pages assigned first and then answer questions together in a round robin style and discuss or help each other to understand the material better. You can also assign them beforehand to bring completed to the group meeting.
All students reconvene at the end of each class to review with the entire class and teacher.
Lastly, Michael Pollan just put out a documentary through PBS with the same title, but it tells of different stories than those in the book. This can be shown in class in addition to reading the book. I like to do this so that students can see and hear the author's voice giving the message.
