Socratic Seminar's are a great way to use higher-level thinking skills and meet CCSS for speaking and listening. Generally the Socratic Method is used in upper elementary, middle school, and high school classrooms. I wanted to find a way to adapt it and make it appropriate for grades K-3. This product was truly a labor of love and one that I created for use in my own classroom throughout the school year.

I have included Socratic seminar questions for 14 different children's books:
Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus
A Chair for My Mother
Harold and the Purple Crayon
Miss Nelson is Missing!
Strega Nona
The Rainbow Fish
Sylvester and the Magic Pebble
The Giving Tree
Where the Wild Things Are
A Bad Case of the Stripes
The Day the Crayons Quit
Leonardo the Terrible Monster
The Pout-Pout Fish

Each includes three different versions of questions to meet the needs of the age group you teach. Question formats are appropriate for grades K-3.

This product also includes Socratic format for grades K-3 AND an alternative "fishbowl" format.

I have also included anchor charts for "how to do" a Socratic Seminar. Each of these posters has an "I can" statement on it with a picture. There is a B&W mini-book for students that I use when I first introduce Socratic Seminars at the beginning of the school year.

Additionally, there are several "conversational moves" posters included.

Please note that while books are NOT included, they are popular books that can be found in the library and there are read-aloud versions on YouTube and Teacher Tube.
