This FREE project is in Word. It is a project on diseases to be created in PPT. A list of 50 diseases is included along with the project guidelines and a rubric. I allow three 50-minute class periods to create and complete the PPT. Once the students have created and completed the PPT on their chosen disease, they present it to the class so that everyone can learn something new.
I find that a lot of students are afraid to speak in public. But once they get going, they end up doing a great job. I tell them that everyone is 'in the same boat', and speaking in front of a group is a skill that will come in handy one day. In my anatomy class, we complete 4 in-depth projects that must be presented in front of the class. By the end of the school year, they've overcome their fear of public speaking - some of them actually enjoy it and ham it up a bit while presenting. I encourage the students to ask questions of the presenters so that everyone can feel like an expert.
