I made this PowerPoint to teach dish words to my ESL students who are new to the country. It also teachers sight words to beginning readers. Each slide has a simple sentence and a picture of a dish that demonstrates the meaning of the dish that is in the sentence. In the notes section under each slide I have also translated each slide into Spanish. Sight words taught in this are I, use, a, to. After teaching the dish vocabulary, I also have the students sort the words by which ones are used for cooking, eating, or drinking.
You can use it as a powerpoint presentation to do as a shared read; put the file in a cloud and read on an iPad like an ebook; print out the slides to read as a traditional book; or print the slides out as a handout, cut an index card in half to use as a cover, and staple them together for students to have a mini book that they can take home or read to a partner. My newcomers (students who are brand new to English) really enjoy having something that they can read without help in English during Daily 5 when they have to work with a partner.
