This interactive Mystery Picture GOOGLE® activity is perfect for any Algebra or Geometry class. It combines practicing the Distance Formula in a fun way with learning a little bit about the man who is famous for the coordinate system, an integral part of the formula.
Students solve 16 problems, finding the distance between two points. They will need a calculator to find square roots of non-perfect squares. After determining the answer, they drag the accompanying puzzle piece, onto the blank puzzle. When all sixteen are done, the puzzle is completed, and a picture of Renee Descartes is complete. There is also an optional mini WebQuest on the life of Descartes. A link to a web site is given which will provide the answers.
I have also included is a printable graphic organizer for the Distance Formula for students’ notebooks. It is part of my Algebra Poster/ Graphic Organizer Bundle. Also included is a poster of Descartes for your classroom.
