“Can I please spend more time studying ancient history?”

Music to our ears, right?

Why not put students in the driver’s seat of learning?

  • Teacher instructions
  • Word Web activity
  • Scavenger hunt for learning how to create google slides presentation (Independent activity)
  • Presentation Student Slides; read to go
  • Timeline for presentation
  • Rubric for easy grading

This project is a year long, self directed, independent project for your students to develop as they explore ancient history using:

  • Online websites
  • Textbooks
  • YouTube Videos
  • Trade books
  • Magazines
  • Picture books
  • And any other type of resource you want them to use

The instructions are simple: Create a master powerpoint presentation showing a glimpse into Ancient History using 2-5 slides per topic; create 1-3  art or food projects throughout the year.

Present project at the completion of the assignment, or at the end of the year.

This type of project allows students to explore history and dive deeper into areas of interest.

Recommended backbone: Have students first discover the basic elements of a civilization as a group/guided activity. A word web is an excellent activity!

  • Government
  • Organized religion
  • Systems of writing
  • Art
  • Social classes/order
  • Etc.

After identifying 7-10 characteristics of a civilization, allow students to choose the 3-5 elements that are most interesting to them.

They will discover details about these elements as they explore ancient history.
