Description
Graphing Parallel and Perpendicular Lines Scaffolded/ Tiered Activity. At the end have students screen shot their design and email it to you. Then snip and create a class quilt on your computer. Send them the finished product to give them a sense of togetherness and community during social distancing.
Create a colorful picture with your Algebra students and have them discover or review what parallel and perpendicular slopes look like. Linear Equations can be tough to grasp for some students, while others excel. This Scaffolded/Tiered assignment has 3 Tiers of different complexity to both challenges those who need it and aid others (especially ELLs).
Tier 1
Highest leveled Student will:
- Decide on any slope value, create 10 linear equations and graph them.
- Create 10 more linear equations perpendicular to the first 10 and graph those.
- Color the solution and name their Artwork.
Tier 2
Average Levelled Student will:
- Be given a slope and expected to create 6 linear equations then graph them.
- Create 6 linear equations to graph that are perpendicular to the first 6.
- Color and name their Artwork
Tier 3
Struggling Student will:
- Be given 5 linear equations to graph that all have the same slope.
- Be given 5 linear equations to graph that are perpendicular so that students will discover the reciprocal rule.
- Color and name their Artwork.
