The purpose of this nature journal is to get students outdoors, observing, and enjoying their local natural outdoor environments. This unit plan is meant to get students excited about learning about local plants, animals, birds, insects, and local ecosystems.
This nature journal does not have to be completed in any particular order. All of the pages can be bound together to make a nature book that students can keep. The questions on the pages are open ended, and they are designed to get students outdoors and learning no matter what area of the world they live in.
The questions in this journal encourage mindfulness, self-guided learning, exploration, and also fosters a respect for the local ecosystems and natural environments, and its inhabitants. This nature journal encourages curiosity, play, and is perfect for an outdoor learning program, for homeschool students, or for any grade 2-5 classroom who would like to learn and explore in their local outdoor environments.
