Students sequence the steps of photosynthesis while providing a visual representation (in the form of a comic) for each step. Using a comic strip layout provided for some great illustrations. Some students drew pictures of flowers "eating" a bag of glucose for one slide. Very fun activity!

Glue

Scissors

Objective:

Given the steps, students will be able to sequence the process of photosynthesis while providing visual representation for each step.

Procedure:

Print this template. (Make sure you click *Fit to page*)

Pass out comic book sheets to students.

Have students cut out the comic book scene description tabs.

Students will sequence (put in order) the tabs to most accurately describe the process of photosynthesis.

Students will glue them in the correct spot on their comic book template.

Students will draw a picture that correlates with the photosynthesis description.

Construct a scientific explanation based on evidence for the role of photosynthesis in the cycling of matter and flow of energy into and out of organisms. Emphasis is on tracing movement of matter and flow of energy. Assessment does not include the biochemical mechanisms of photosynthesis.
NGSSHS-LS2-5
Develop a model to illustrate the role of photosynthesis and cellular respiration in the cycling of carbon among the biosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere, and geosphere. Examples of models could include simulations and mathematical models. Assessment does not include the specific chemical steps of photosynthesis and respiration.
