Children love a treasure hunt! This is a "learn as you go" activity. See the related BOOM CARDS!
I used this treasure hunt online with some of my ESL students in first through fourth grade. We had two teams, but it could be played individually too. (There are two separate videos with the same 16 words, eight in each video, for those who want to have just one child playing or simply to play without teams.)
There are 16 vocabulary words:
- paper towels
- Individual Student Video #1 (eight words) + answer video
- Individual Student Video #2 (eight words) + answer video
- Team Video (8 words for each team) + answer video
- Vocabulary Handout with all 16 words and images of each
Children watch the video (teachers pause between rounds) and then search for the items and return to the screen to show them. I've left five seconds after each round, but you'll need to stop the video before to gets to the next round!
I didn't teach any of these words specifically before the game. Some children knew some of the words, but no one knew all of them. Hence, the idea "learn as you go." I gave the vocabulary page and the answer videos afterwards, but you could do it in advance to motive them to learn the words.
Have fun! There is a second game for children at this level and another coming soon for older children with more difficult vocabulary.
Thanks for stopping by!
