This product is a flipped lesson plan with associated files for an Algebra or Geometry class. I designed the lesson for my flipped high school geometry class and entitled it, "Determining Distance on the Coordinate Plane". This lesson was an extension of prior work with the Pythagorean Theorem and Distance Formula.
The homework assigned the night before the lesson was to watch a video and complete the notes template. The next day in class, we showed slides from the video, and discussed the key math ideas.
Students completed a Scavenger Hunt to practice finding distance between points and lines on the coordinate plane. The activity got them up and moving and talking about the math with their peers.
Students solved four practice problems, working independently. This was an effective formative assessment.
The lesson worked great with students in my flipped geometry classroom. It would also be effective in a traditional instructional format. It took an 84 minute class period to complete.
