Through these highly engaging learning stations, students are able to experience some of the daily aspects of the Great Depression firsthand. They will learn that although life during the 1930s was extremely challenging, people still found inexpensive ways to forget about their worries. With a little preparation by the teacher, students will enjoy new food items that were introduced during the 1930s, favorite pastimes of children and families during the 1930s, and films of the 1930s. These stations are the perfect accompaniment to a unit about the Great Depression to help students understand that the time period was not solely gloom and despair. A teacher guide, student guides for each station, and fact cards are included.
Created by Joy Renfro - My fifth graders loved these stations and have talked about them all year! Making history hands-on truly is the key to learning!
