Product Description
Do your students struggle to understand and remember the distributive property of multiplication? Mine usually do… that’s why I developed the concept of the Distributive Doctor.

When teaching a difficult concept, such as the distributive property of multiplication, I like to begin with the concrete (manipulatives), progress to the representational (drawing pictures of the manipulatives previously used), and end with the abstract (using only numbers and mathematical symbols). As a result, this download includes activities that fall into each of these categories. Take a look at the preview to catch a glimpse of some of the activities included.

With Dr. D, the distributive doctor, students will pretend they are surgeons “breaking apart” arrays. They will then begin to “see” the distributive property of multiplication and why 3x6 is equal to (3x2)+(3x4) or equal to 3 x (2+4).

My students really enjoy Dr. D and the activities included in this download, so I hope yours will too. If you like what you see, please take a moment to leave me some feedback.
Thank you so much and happy teaching,
:0) Melissa
