This Distributive Property Introduction Lesson includes the PowerPoint Lesson, Guided Notes, and an Assignment. I have successfully used this lesson in both general education and special education classes.
The lesson starts with a "Daily Learning Check" on properties of operations/algebra (commutative, additive inverse, zero, etc.). If you would like, you could download and use my FREE Daily Learning Check Form to use for the Daily Learning Check.
The lesson reviews multiplication as repeated addition to help students grasp how useful the distributive property is and why it's an important skill to learn.
The lesson has specific model problems to show students what the distributive property is and how to use it. The lesson and guided notes also include guided practice problems for quick formative assessment during the lesson.
The last part of lesson is a "ticket to assignment" – 3 questions that students must correctly complete before they can receive their assignment. I made sure the problems on the assignment reflect what was taught in the lesson, so students are able to complete the assignment independently and successfully.
