The self-checking partner activity has two parts for students to practice using the distributive property to factor and expand linear expressions. In Part 1 of each activity, each partner has different problems. Students work on part 1 individually. The student answers from Part 1 match, so students can check their work with their partner after they have had time to complete part 1. In Part 2 of the activity, students work together on an extension of part 1 that uses the same problems as part 1. In this extension activity, students connect factoring and expanding expressions to the area model.
