    Description

Help your students understand how to apply the DISTRIBUTIVE PROPERTY OF MULTIPLICATION with these 44 MATH TASK CARDS and more than 60-page MATH UNIT. This resource is perfect for students who are struggling to understand and apply the DISTRIBUTIVE PROPERTY. It begins with concrete (manipulatives) activities, progresses to the representational stage (drawing pictures of the manipulatives previously used), and ends with the abstract (using only numbers and mathematical symbols).

With Dr. D, the distributive doctor, students will pretend they are surgeons “breaking apart” arrays. They will begin to “see” the distributive property of multiplication and why 3x6 is equal to (3x2)+(3x4) or equal to 3 x (2+4). Use this math unit to teach/practice the fundamental skill or prep for test day!

I love how it went from the concrete hands-on activities to the abstract numerical format. Thank you so much for a wonderful product! I loved it so much I purchased additional licenses for my team. Thank you!" — More Than Elementary

“After a lesson from the book in my math program on the Distributive Property, my class was still confused. I purchased this product. What a difference!!! They loved it...it was hands-on. They loved the scalpel "Popsicle stick" and doing surgery on the array. Most of all...they understand the distributive property. I can't wait to utilize all of the features! Very creative! There's a lot in this package for the price! Awesome purchase!!” — Gina S.

"This is a great buy for starting OR reviewing the distributive property. My kids loved this and I really believe that this packet is a big reason that all my kids improved from the pre-test to the post-test! I loved it, my EA loved it, my math coach loved it, and most importantly my kids loved it!” — Jill M.

“My third graders were having such a hard time understanding distributive property. This activity was a godsend! After this activity, they ¨got¨ it. It was so much fun too! Students loved operating!" — Kelly F.

“Awesome, awesome, awesome product! Trying to explain the distributive property to ELL third graders is not easy but this product is absolutely genius!! I do not dread teaching this concept in the fall. THANK YOU!" — Jeanann W.

“This is the BEST method for teaching the distributive property of multiplication! It teaches a very difficult concept in a fun and hands-on way. My students absolutely loved the lesson and still talk about it months later. Thank you for such a fabulous resource!!” —Kathryn M.

"This is a FANTASTIC product! My class loved it, and so did I. My third graders had a much better understanding of the distributive property after having worked through the activities in this packet. Thanks so much!" —Staci F.

    Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide. Examples: If 6 × 4 = 24 is known, then 4 × 6 = 24 is also known. (Commutative property of multiplication.) 3 × 5 × 2 can be found by 3 × 5 = 15, then 15 × 2 = 30, or by 5 × 2 = 10, then 3 × 10 = 30. (Associative property of multiplication.) Knowing that 8 × 5 = 40 and 8 × 2 = 16, one can find 8 × 7 as 8 × (5 + 2) = (8 × 5) + (8 × 2) = 40 + 16 = 56. (Distributive property.)
