The card match activity provides 9 expressions that require use of the distributive property and combining like terms to simplify.
The students are to cut the cards apart, simplify the unsimplified expressions using the distributive property and combining like terms. The students then match the simplified form to the unsimplified form and glue them next to each other on another sheet of paper. The cards have built-in self-checking capability.
The activity give kinesthetic learners some movement while performing the task. The work may be done individually or with a partner, and may be pasted in an interactive notebook. The results of the task can also be displayed in the classroom.
Worked-out problems and answers are included.
