Decimals in the Divisor

5.NBT.B.7
6.NS.B.3

Objective:
I will divide multi digit numbers with decimals in the divisor.

Dividing Decimals is quite the challenge for my kiddos. I introduce the concept with my Dividing Decimals PowerPoint and then follow up with some task card practice.

I created these task cards as a way to have the opportunity for a lot of repetition. I like to mix things up and task cards are a way to do that. These task cards can used as an early finisher, as a scoot game, or as a center.

Task cards have become a game for us. I give my students white boards and challenged them to beat me. Of course, I have to even the playing field so I walk a lap around the classroom between steps. When I solve the problem, they show their boards and I count the number of students that have completed the problem. This provides those students that were nervous the chance to copy what I'm doing until they are confident enough to try it on their own. As students gain confidence, they become the person the class is trying to beat by coming up to the white board.
