Dividing Polynomials Scavenger Hunt (Long Division & Synthetic Division:
The objective of this activity is for students to review how to divide polynomials using long division (and synthetic, if you choose to). There are 12 stations - half of which must be solved using long division and half in which students may use synthetic division if you have already covered it. *Answer key included*
Print each of the following pages on colored paper and hang around the room (my students also love it when I placed some of pages in the hallway). This will give you 12 stations (12 problems). Give each student the Scavenger Hunt Worksheet. In partners or small groups, the students will first pick a station to begin with (they can begin anywhere). They may solve the problem from that station in the designated box (they may need scratch paper for this scavenger hunt given that division problems take a little more room). The students will then use that answer to determine which station to head to next (answers are in the upper left-hand corner of each station).
Teacher tip: I do this scavenger hunt as a review of polynomial division on a block day (80 minute periods). If you do not have that much time, you can begin the scavenger hunt in class and then have students write down the problems from the stations they don't get to so they can do it as homework.
