Dividing polynomials can be a piece of cake with these guided notes
and a scavenger hunt.
The five half-pages of notes can be glued directly into notebooks or stapled as a booklet. A twelve question, self-checking scavenger hunt will allow students to practice dividing polynomials.
Below is a description of how the notes are presented:
✦ Dividing a polynomial by a monomial (exploration – 3 problems)
✦ Dividing a polynomial by a monomial (written as a fraction and long division)
✦ Dividing a polynomial by a binomial (long division – with a remainder and without a remainder)
✦ Dividing a polynomial by a binomial (rewriting the terms and inserting missing terms)
✦ Dividing a polynomial by a binomial (practice with no remainder and a remainder)
The scavenger hunt includes twelve problems
in which students will divide a polynomial by a monomial or a binomial. All of the problems will result with a remainder of zero
. Students begin with the first problem and navigate their way through all twelve problems. The last problems should lead student back to the first problem.
