  • 1st wheel outlines the steps of multiplying by the reciprocal
  • 2nd wheel outlines how to divide fractions by using common denominators
  • I teach both methods, so students know that both ways exist and so they can become proficient using both

2) Teacher keys/wheels with completed notes and examples

3) Colored samples of wheels

4) A PowerPoint file that has a blank wheel with background, so you can add text to make your own math wheels, if you’d like (for classroom use only - not commercial use).

Multiplying by Reciprocal wheel:

1) Convert to improper fractions

2) Rewrite as multiplication

3) Cross out

4) Multiply numerators; multiply denominators

5) Simplify

Using Common Denominators wheel:

1) Convert to improper fractions

2) Find common denominators

3) Create a new fraction, with the numerator of the 1st fraction on top and the numerator of the 2nd fraction on bottom

4) Simplify
