### PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

When dividing by powers of ten, students need to consider the magnitude of the numbers rather than the movement of the decimal point so in this activity I have asked students to consider the missing divisor—which power of ten is necessary for the correct solution. Two sets of solution cards are included…whole numbers and powers of ten. You may ask students to match all of the cards or one set at a time-good for differentiation.
As early in their instruction as possible, students should begin working with variables rather than little boxes or blank lines. Even very young students can conceptualize the meaning of the variable. This is a matching activity where a variable has been inserted in the equation in place of the power of ten. Students match the equation cards with the powers of ten cards.
This activity includes a worksheet with an answer key that can be used as a formative assessment or exit ticket with equations like those found on the cards.
