Looking for a fun way for your students to learn their multiplication facts? Sick of simply giving drill sheets and Mad Minutes? Diving for Digits is the answer! One page is included for all of the basic times tables (x1, x2, x3, x4, x5, x6, x7, x8, x9, x10, x11, x12) and a final page of mixed facts. A progress chart is also included for your students to track their progress and celebrate their success.
Directions: Students practice their facts by taking a deep breath and “diving underwater.” The goal is to be able to say the answers to all
of the facts in each box, while taking just one breath. On each fact page, the boxes gradually become longer, helping your students to
eventually master the final box, containing all 13 basic facts for that set. A student progress chart is included, so your students can see their growth and celebrate their success. Once they pass a fact page, they color in the corresponding depth on their progress chart. How deep can they dive?
This is a perfect activity for centers, partners or even for homework practice. Students will actually LOVE learning their facts! Plus, it is easy to implement. There's no prep involved, and no correcting to be done after your students attend this center. I print mine on card stock and laminate them for durability. You can use them year after year.
Another fun idea is to bring in a prop, such as a diving mask. When students attempt to "pass" a fact page, they can put on the mask to say their facts. :)
