This is a pack of games and handouts to help students practice recognizing and using text features.
-Students will be able to identify text features in various non-fiction texts by searching through books for them while using the ‘spin a text feature game’ and the ‘text feature safari’ hand out. The ‘text feature safari handout’ can also be used as a formative or summative assessment.
-Students will be able to match illustrated cards showing what the text features look like to cards with the printed definitions of the text feature on them. Teachers may also use these as flash cards!
-Students will be able to use a word bank to fill in the blanks and show what they know about the purpose of each text feature. Teachers may use this as a formative or summative assessment.
-Students will be able to show what they know about text features while playing text feature bingo. You can cut up one bingo card to use for the ‘calling number’ or you can have students use the enclosed definition cards to call out and have students identify the text feature on their ‘bingo card.’ This could be used whole group, small group, or as a center!
