, or divisibility tests
, have a wide range of applications in mathematics (finding factors, determining prime vs. composite, simplifying fractions, probability, etc.), but are often underemphasized in the classroom or not explored in enough detail for students to retain and use them as they progress through higher math classes. This product combines these divisibility rules with critical thinking skills
, thereby helping to cement these concepts in the minds of the students. Rather than being provided with a number and proving divisibility or lack thereof, students are instead given divisibility requirements and asked to find a number that meets these requirements (e.g. – “Find a number that is divisible by 2 and 3 but not by 4.”). After the students come up with an appropriate number, they must then prove that it meets the divisibility requirements. Two “challenges”
with 10 such problems each are provided in this product, along with a warm-up page to introduce these types of problems to the students. Detailed keys are also provided. Each 10-Number Challenge
can either be done as an individual or partner assignment or as a friendly who-can-come-up-with-the-most-correct-responses competition. For your convenience, this product also includes a copy of Divisibility Rule Poetry
, a popular free download also available at TpT.
This product is the ideal companion to Divisibility Rule Poetry - Worksheets, Keys, and Mastery Tests
, which contains three worksheets and five mastery tests that provide numbers and ask students to prove or disprove disability. The 10-number challenges may be either mixed in between the worksheets to help cement concepts or done after completion of the worksheets to add in use of critical thinking skills in solving divisibility rule problems.
If you are interested in enabling your students to easily experience the lasting benefits of divisibility rules by enjoying these ready-made challenges, this is the product for you!

If you would like your students to obtain an even deeper understanding of the vocabulary related to algebraic equations, please see Equation Terminology Puzzles
, which introduces students to the language associated with algebraic equations through a review and two engaging puzzles.
Feel free to also check out a growing number of other products that use poetry, songs, games, worksheets, and assessments to make math fun and help students to learn a variety of common core math standards.
