Product Description
Description of Activity:
I use Interactive Student Notebooks (ISN) and SMARTboards to teach mathematical concepts in my classroom. This Divisibility Rules SMARTboard presentation with accompanying foldable is an engaging and interactive way to introduce or review divisibility rules. Learning these rules enables students to develop number sense and work more easily with numbers in numerous real-life situations. The interactive SMARTboard allows students to get out of their seats and work at the board, while the foldable creates a tool for students to reference or review. I have students glue the foldable in their Interactive Student Notebook, so they can refer back to it throughout the year as needed. Almost every page in the presentation has a link or an object that can be moved or clicked during the learning process. The foldable follows the presentation and provides a way for students to record their learning. Everything for this lesson is completely ready for implementation. Just make copies of the foldable for each student, and your lesson is ready to go!

Included in this lesson are the divisibility rules for 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, and 10. Each number has a SMARTboard page dedicated to it that includes the divisibility rule and interactive examples. The foldable includes a section to flip for each of the numbers listed. On the inside of the foldable, students will fill out two sections. One section contains the divisibility rule for each number and the other side is for students to list examples. I generate these examples during our class discussion so that students can participate in providing examples for each number.

I have also included the rap song that I created to help my students remember the rule for 3 and 9. Following the rules, students have the opportunity to review with several example numbers in the presentation.

Materials Included:
1 Interactive SMARTboard Presentation
1 Foldable in PDF Format

Teacher Set-Up:
1) Print one foldable for each student. (Print front and back.)

Foldable Directions:
1) Place the foldable on a flat surface with the numbers facing down (rules and examples facing up).
2) Fold the short left side to the center line and crease.
3) Fold the short right side to the center line and crease.
*With my students, I refer to this type of foldable as a "French Door Foldable" since it opens from the center. At this point, all of the numbers should be on the outer page.
4) Have students cut the dotted lines to the creases. (Note that the foldable should stay in one piece.)
5) Glue the back of the foldable into a notebook.
