Here is a document that students, teachers, and parents can use to help them to divide any number easily and with more confidence. No longer should you fear math or say to yourself, "I can't divide, especially not the larger numbers." Using these rules and the examples should help to alleviate this fear and BOOST your love for math.
My fifth grade students struggle with division as it is, so I needed to create a tool that will help them with division. This document should not take the place of manipulatives, but it should be used in conjunction with the manipulatives. Once students are able to practice using these rules, they should be able to divide more easily and with greater confidence.
Many of my students also struggle with odd and even numbers as well as place value. Yes, I know they should know these skills by the time they enter the fifth grade, but we all know that there can be a multitude of reasons why they continue to struggle with such skills. One reason..."If I don't use it...I will lose it." Another reason..."Lack of understanding of pairs or equal". Another reason..."Lack of understanding place value". The list can go on. It is my goal to help my students to make the connections with multiple skills so that they know that division cannot be solve correctly if we do not know and understand place value first...then odd and even numbers.
