This is an activity that your kids are sure to love!
How it works: I label 6 areas (can be tables) in the classroom after the places listed in the activity (police station, bank, grocery store, gas station, restaurant, and pharmacy). I inform the students that today we are going to be detectives. We discuss what detectives are and then I divide them into groups (you can do this as you please). I had each group a file folder (which reads Case #___ on the outside and contains their case paperwork on the inside). The students follow the instructions inside their folder and seek to solve the crime. The instructions send them to the different locations and ask them to pick up an envelope for further instructions (every envelope has a question inside).
You can give each group a different case if they finish early or on a different day!
It requires 6 file folders, 20 small envelopes (numbered 1-3), and 6 tables or locations in your classroom that are labeled after the places listed in the activity. I use sticker name-tags on which I write "Detective" and leave space for them to write their names.
