“Don’t practice until you get it right.
Practice until you can’t get it wrong”
In the spirit of the quote above, division bracelets are a perfect tool for helping kids practice their facts anywhere, anytime! Included are bracelets in 3 different formats (the latter 2 formats have 5 variations each) to allow for differentiation in your class:
• Facts listed in consecutive order
• Facts listed in random order
• Facts listed with a missing dividend
Just copy the bracelets on brightly colored paper, cut out, and tape/glue the bracelets for easy and continued wear. It's recommended to spend a little time with students talking about the purpose of the bracelets (to develop automaticity with fact recall) and brainstorming possible way to use them to their fullest (eg. in the car, waiting in line, before bed, upon waking, etc.).
Optional: Have kids write the answers (quotients or missing dividends) on the bracelet, or leave the bracelets blank for constant practice. If you choose the latter, a handy "Division Fact Check" list is included. This can be handed to students to stick in a pocket or folder for quick reference when needed. The sheet helps ensure that students are practicing with accuracy.
Bracelets are available for division facts ranging from 2-12.
Accurate, quick, and effortless recall of basic math facts is critical to
students’ success in mathematics. If this fluent retrieval does not develop,
then the advancement of higher-order math skills may be seriously impaired. If a student continually has to exert cognitive capital to perform basic facts, that leaves less "thinking capacity" for growing higher order math skills.
