This is a workbook of 26 different no frills, drill and kill worksheets (with answer keys). Each worksheet contains every combination of Divisors and dividends from 1 thru 12 (78 problems per page). I made these to use with my 6th grade students who were coming to my classroom lacking fluency in basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. I use them in conjunction with a very nice (free) online program called Xtra Math. I observed that many of my students made little or no progress over the course of the year when using the online program alone. They seemed to engage only very passively when working online. I decided to incorporate written drills based on what we now know about the connection between writing (as opposed to keyboarding) and the brain. Once I started incorporating the written drills, student progress increased dramatically.
I use the drills as follows:
1. Each student begins with the diagnostic test on Xtra Math.
2. The students must then complete a page of drills, working until all are correct, and this is the time that is recorded for the drill. This is repeated for the next three days (Monday-Thursday).
3. On the fifth day (Friday), the students go back online and complete a round of Xtra Math drills.
This gives the teacher the data from the timed drills, and the data from Xtra Math to track progress.
I also allow students to use the Xtra Math program at home and during free computer time, if they wish.
