This document is meant to help fourth graders master the division algorithm. It also addresses the concept of partial quotients and interpreting remainders.
This document first walks students step-by-step through a simple division problem. It guides them by telling them what to do and providing boxes where they write the numbers. There are two more problems at the bottom of the first page where students can practice without the step-by-step instruction. The boxes encourage students to keep their work neat and also help them know where to place the numbers.
The next three pages contain 18 problems of increasing difficulty with boxes where the numbers go. There are separate answers keys with the numbers already placed into the boxes so students could use this to monitor their progress independently. The problems all have a one-digit divisor, and the dividends go from two digit up to four digit.
There is also one page of 6 word problems using partial quotients and one page of 6 division word problems where students can practice dividing and interpreting the remainder.
This could be used as a test, for remediation, for extra-credit work, or for practice. Students can easily monitor their success since an answer key is provided for everything.
