My first grade students have recently been seeing a LOT of division problems on their MAP test. Unfortunately, our adopted Math series just does not give them enough exposure to the concepts to be able to successfully complete the items on the test. The students see the conventional division symbols and become very nervous because they have never seen the symbols before. I created this PPT so that the students can manipulate the items on the screen in the same manner that they manipulate the items on the MAP screen. The students often do not even realize that they can move the items when taking their tests.
After walking the students through the story problems, then have them use the blank slides to write their own story problems and use illustrations to determine the solutions.
