This video shows you 6 strategies for dividing large numbers by one digit numbers.
The Common Core requires 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders to find whole-number quotients of whole numbers using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division.
The strategies shown in this video support Common Core standards, and will help teachers understand the various division strategies students use as they grapple with division problems.
So many Americans feel that division is the most difficult operation. This is probably because they had only one option: memorize the steps of long division (which only work if you can accurately multiply and subtract!).
Many of our students struggle to memorize steps of procedures. They need to understand the concepts behind the procedures to anchor each step to something that makes sense. This video will show you long division and 5 other place-value and concept-based options for solving division problems.
Teaching division (with or without long division) can be daunting, but with this video to help, you've got it!
