This packet includes 20 hands-on division work mats designed to reinforce the concept of division as sharing. This is a fantastic activity to help visual and kinesthetic learners understand the basic concept of division. Can be used as extra support for small groups, as a center activity, or as a whole group rotation activity. Student recording sheet and teacher answer key are included.
This activity requires minimum preparation and set-up. Simply print and laminate the work mats and gather materials for students to use as counters. Both dollar store materials and classroom math manipulatives will work.
Aligns with the Ontario Mathematics Curriculum - Grade 3 NSN: relate multiplication of one-digit numbers and division by one-digit divisors to real- life situations, using a variety of tools and strategies (e.g., place objects in equal groups, use arrays, write repeated addition or subtraction sentences) (Sample prob- lem: Give a real-life example of when you might need to know that 3 groups of 2 is 3 x 2.);
Aligns with Common Core Standard 3.OA.A2 - Interpret whole-number quotients of whole numbers, e.g., interpret 56 ÷ 8 as the number of objects in each share when 56 objects are partitioned equally into 8 shares, or as a number of shares when 56 objects are partitioned into equal shares of 8 objects each
