Students use the relationship between multiplication and division, and area models, to divide by 2 digit divisors. Students then learn how to express the partial quotients in the area models as an expression or equation that represents the distributive property of division. These lessons are very explicit for the teacher. They tell you what to say, when; what to anticipate and look-for as you allow students to explore different strategies; and provide the steps to guide students through the appropriate grade level strategies. I created the lessons for 5.NBT.B.6, but can be adpated to meet 4.NBT.B.4 by changing the divisor in the problems to single digits. Meets rigor of common core!
